Following on from her last mesmerising single Murmurations, Olive Grinter releases the quintessentially beautiful ‘Feeling Queer’
‘Feeling Queer’ is the songwriter at her most personal and delicate. In ‘Feeling Queer’ Olive eschews metaphor and naturalistic imagery for an honest admittance of love and comfort to a partner. Olive walks a path, seldom achieved by only the most accomplished songwriters, of appearing vulnerable with total and unfailing sincerity.
‘Feeling Queer’ starts as an admittance of distance from desire, a quiet acceptance tinged with sadness. As the melody repeats, the distance recedes as the lyrics move from imagery to narrative. Olive’s stunning voice strengthens and the sonic landscape widens, as she centres herself and her muse. It is at once deeply personal and universal in the way few love songs achieve. In the song’s conclusion Olive unifies her voices to create a deep and ever undulating harmony; a reflection of the pure union within her lyrics. Once again, ‘Feeling Queer’ draws comparisons to Laura Marling, Snowpoet and Adrienne Lenker.
‘Feeling Queer’ is the final single from her debut album, due in mid 2024, which was recorded alongside producer Sam Barnes (AhGeeBee, Part Time Signals, Boy Azooga).
