The Garrys Release New Single ‘Cakewalk’

Canadian sister trio The Garrys will release their new single, ‘Cakewalk,’ accompanied by a new music video, via Grey Records.

‘Cakewalk’ marks the first new music since 2021’s Get Thee To A Nunnery and the first release since the trio of LenoreJulie, and Erica Maier recruited their brother Matthew on guitar. ‘Cakewalk’ is undoubtedly a The Garrys release in all the best ways, as the “doom-wop” outfit weaves criss-crossing guitar riffs and a three-part braid of harmony with rhythmic stutter, underpinned by the warm analogue hum of a VHS tape. The syncopated surf rock beats and guitars steeped in tremolo create a psychedelic dread drenched in dark nostalgia, conjuring images of a Lynchian school dance. “Cakewalk is the first song we’re releasing that was written by all four of us; lyrically, the track explores the nuggets of good advice we’ve all ignored, the existential discomfort of holding multiple truths, and the stoic relief of resignation to an indifferent universe,” the band added.

The accompanying music video for ‘Cakewalk’, shot and directed by filmmaker Carey Shaw, is also be available via The Garrys’ YouTube channel. Taking aesthetic inspiration from vintage found footage of a 1988 Miss Saskatoon beauty pageant, the video features the soft-focus romance and shoulder-pad glamour of a mid-80s soap opera mixed with a surrealist take on a local television channel’s variety show. In addition to the music video, The Garrys will be taking their hazy sun-bleached melodies on the road to the UK. Having played The Great Escape in 2018 and 2022, The Garrys are ready to retake the UK by storm having just played three sets at FOCUS Wales and have stops in Dublin and Glasgow.

Born out of the coldest part of landlocked Canada, The Garrys formed in the spring of 2015 and named themselves after their father, Garry. The trio debuted with Warm Buds in 2016, a lo-fi record that established what would become the band’s signature woozy garage-surf sound. The sister trio have since recruited their brother Matthew Maier to join the family fun, but only after the band’s last album, Get Thee To The NunneryGet Thee To The Nunnery won them a 2022 Western Canadian Music Award in the category of Breakout Artist of the Year, as well as Alternative Artist of the Year in the Saskatchewan Music Awards the same year.

Sister Envy Release New Single ‘Tide’

Following on from their warmly received debut single ‘Mourning Sickness’ North Wales band Sister Envy grace us with yet another captivating single, the extraordinary ‘Tide’.

‘Tide’ lures you in with soothing guitar tones and cinematic psychedelia, it grows from enveloping heart on the sleeve melodies, decorated in a carousel of psych tinged guitars into a sprawling epic anthem.

‘I’ll be the one to save you’ promises Joliffe in a track that’s woozy, romantic, mysterious yet with a sting in the tail. Gradually swelling into a fuzz laden chorus that has elements of the shoegaze anthems of Ride. Verve or the grungy gaze of early Smashing Pumpkins. It’s another fascinating glimpse of Sister’s Envy’s sonic arsenal and world of intrigue and ambition that looks at the horizon beyond their North Walian homes.

Vocalist and guitarist, Kameron Jolliffe says: “Tide is the first song we recorded together as a band, I wrote it whilst severely hungover one sunny afternoon, it was one of those days where the moon was visible.. I wrote it about someone I used to see, a toxic relationship that still pulls you in just to inevitably throw you back.”

Sister Envy hail from the North Wales coast, a place of mystery, harshness, and beauty, a place where opportunity is blocked for younger people yet dreams can break through. It’s here that Sister Envy met at college. This fast-emerging Alternative Psychedelic rock quartet are a brand new signing to North Wales label Yr Wyddfa Records Snowdonia (home to Holy Coves).

Sister Envy are Kameron Jolliffe (Vocals and Lead Guitar), Matty Waring (Guitar), Callum Jones (Bass) and Ryan Roberts (Drums). The band are a new signing to North Wales label Yr Wyddfa Records Snowdonia.

They have crafted their sound in the studio with Welsh producers Owain Ginsberg (Hippies Vs. Ghosts) and Scott Marsden (Holy Coves).

The lunar single ‘Tide’ is out now on all streaming platforms.

Iann Brennan Releases New Single ‘Game Over’

Irish indie rocker IANN BRENNAN releases single ‘Game Over‘, out now on AGR Records.

‘Game Over’ is the lead single off Brennan’s  debut album, written by the singer himself and performed with his band, recorded and produced by renowned Irish producer Ray Traynor. The quality of this song caught the attention of Hot Press magazine who made it their ‘Hot Press track of the day’.

Iann Brennan is an Irish Indie Rock artist from Dublin, Ireland. Playing guitar from the age of 12 and after spending time in some bands, Iann decided to go solo and one of his first gigs was a support slot to renowned Irish band Aslan. After connecting with Irish producer Ray Traynor, who Iann has worked with ever since, he has gone on to write a collection of anthemic, melodic, catchy, heartfelt songs which are influenced by Iann’s heroes such as Oasis, Kings of Leon, Arctic Monkeys and Stereophonics. His unique brand of entertainment fuses anthemic melodic songs and driving guitar lines with energetic and witty stage banter that will make you want to sing and get lost in the music.

Iann’s music reached the ears of German label AGR Television Records, where he signed to the label in 2023 and released the album ‘Start As You Mean To Go On‘, which is out now. Featured on Start As You Mean To Go On is original Aslan songwriter/bassist Tony McGuinness, who heard Brennan’s tunes and wanted to be part of the album. He brings his own flair of magical, grooving bass lines to the record. “A pleasure to be part of Iann’s debut album. He just rocks it.”

Damien Dempsey shares of the rising talent: “Within Iann Brennan’s soaring anthemic melodies are lots of wise lines between the cracking hooks. If he’s playing near you, do yourself a favour and try to get to him, he’s the bomb.”

Adding to the list of album credentials, U2’s renowned album designer Steve Averill lended his talents to the album cover, logo and artwork on Brennan’s soon-to-be-released album.

Plans are now being made for a tour during the summer/autumn of 2024. Notable past performances include opening for Damien Dempsey, Aslan, Declan O’Rourke, Mary Coghlan, Hazel O’Connor, Eddi Reader and Lisa Hannigan.

The Now Release New Single ‘Too Hot To Handle’

Fast rising, vibrant and head turning rockers The Now release their new single and video ‘Too Hot To Handle’ being the title track of their highly dynamic and acclaimed debut album available now on CD/vinyl and all digital platforms via Trew Music HERE.

We’ve been really inspired by some of the brave stories told by people who have suffered from mental health. We all read some remarkable stories during men’s mental health week and still continue to read about the stresses that people can come under.” Opening up the charismatic and engaging frontman Shane Callaghan says of the theme brutally depicted in the accompanying visceral and striking video, “Luckily as a band we’ve not suffered directly from mental health. The line “I’ve got a problem in my head, I’ll just watch it burn instead”…this is really what a lot of men do and instead of talking about it we tend to hold it all in until it gets too much. We hope the song can give anyone some comfort if they’re ever feeling like there’s no escape but remember there’s always someone there to pick up the pieces.

Hailing from South Wales UK, the energetic 4 piece are made up of Shane (lead vocals/guitar), Callum Bromage (guitar/vocals), Jay Evans on (bass/vocals), Will Scott (drums), as a live band they ensure that not only will you see one of the best shows around, there’s a place for you to escape the mundane fallacies of day to day life and to be part of something bigger than you can imagine. Their hooky, instantly relatable music has been featured as a Planet Rock Track of The Week, on ITV, BBC Radio 2 Johnnie Walker Show and Sky Sports to name a few. The stunning debut was recorded at the highly renowned Real World Studios and produced by Grammy Award winning Oli Jacobs, (Peter Gabriel, The 1975).

The album is by no means a one-trick-pony. Bearing swaggering balls to the wall rock, sing-along anthems and a sweeping ballad which all demonstrate a clear crossover appeal from rock to indie to pop exemplifying the sonic breadth of the band. “It’s a safe bet to say that we have something for everyone and we’ve all been through difficult times in our lives – from emotional break ups, to the ever changing transitions we face and obviously the challenges of losing people close to us. We want to take our fans and new listeners on a journey and to pull out their own meaning for themselves from each of our songs.” Since the release Metaltalk enthused “Great songs, intelligent writing, intuitive production.”, Emerging Rock Bands identified “They genuinely do sound different to everyone else”, Metalplanet Music stated “One of THE best releases of 2024” and Overtone exclaimed “An incredible album, 9.5/10.”

Having recently opened for Feeder to sold out crowds the band have shared the stage with heroes in Placebo, Noel Gallagher, Frank Carter and The Rattlesnakes, in addition to a rapturous reception at The Isle of Wight Festival and a fantastic ovation at Planet Rockstock. They are on a mission to leave no head left unturned with a local festival appearance at Station 18 Swansea followed by more shows and ventures to Europe to be announced.

We believe ‘Too Hot To Handle’ really showcases our diverse range of writing and sound, we’re not to be pigeonholed into one way stylistically! Ultimately you can be who you want to be, make the music you believe in and you shouldn’t care what anyone says about what you choose to do in life as it’s simply too short.” Join The Now and live in the moment.
