Well, the irrepressible Tin Man Fletcher and The Shed Project have been back at it again! Hot on the heels of the fantastic Curious Mind of a Common Man released last year, amidst a tour that sees the band playing up and down the country at iconic venues, the band have found time to write, record and release another charity single. Same as last time, proceeds go to Whysup; the Bolton based mental health and addiction specialist who will have certainly had their work cut out for them over the last couple of tough years.
Roy is once again speaking straight from the heart in this soul saver of a single, it’s inspiration and motivation without being preachy, in fact, it was thinking about this song that got me up and out of bed this Sunday morning; nice and early out with the dogs, coffee, write this review, I’m getting busy and I do feel like a better person for doing it.
If you’ve heard the album, you will know there is no bullshit with The Shed Project, these are all lived experiences in song form, and I love that, it’s Strange Town and Red Light Indicates the Doors are Secure, its real life. You will also know that Roy’s own life has had its fair share of ups and downs, loves and losses. It’s not been a Kardashian existence with the highlight reel on Insta. This song deals with the loss of someone close, trying to come to terms with the void left behind. Roy treats us to an emotional vocal performance while Ollie’s guitar work has a beautiful yet plaintive quality that tugs at the heartstrings. Give it a listen, spread the word for the good people at Whysup, I can’t think of a more enjoyable way to help a good cause than streaming or buying this record, other than perhaps catching the guys at one of their upcoming gigs.
