The Assist Release New Single ‘The Luckiest Man’

Birmingham band The Assist are back with an intense depiction of modern day life with their new single ‘The Luckiest Man’. The Council-Pop outfit are one of the UK’s most established underground groups and have redefined the boundaries of independent music with their acclaimed inspiriting style, fresh impetus, hope and melody.

Their latest single ‘The Luckiest Man’ is the second offering from the band’s highly anticipated second studio album ‘Disconnections’. The track details the internal conflict that we so often experience when trying to weigh up chasing success and acknowledging what we already have. Lead singer Mikey provides a ruthless analysis of our personal value systems with a matter-of-fact observation on life today. Touching on what inspired the track, Mikey said “I feel that having a creative personality is often paired with an overwhelming fear of becoming stagnant or potentially even a failure. Consumed by a desire to always progress in all aspects of life I found that I would often disregard all that I already had right in front of me.
It was important for me to detail that in my music. It is now out in the open as a constant reminder for me and anyone else that needs reminding that we have a lot to be thankful for.”

Mikey’s calculated verse depicting a mid-twenties angst sits above guitarist’s Ryan Stanton’s infectious chords, helping the track to glide forward with an ambient lure. Assisted by Jorge Poole’s prolific and ever-present rhythmic drive, the gentle production adds a frightening depth. A kaleidoscopic realm of sounds was created by producer Ryan Malcs (Wolf Alice/Superfood). A production debut that has proven to be the catalyst for the band’s evolution. Mikey delivers a calming vocal with some clear emotion that entices listeners to the message within. Speaking of the song, Mikey said, “The Luckiest Man was my chance to
express my gratitude for all that I have in life. In moments of reflection I felt that by acknowledging what I was truly grateful for I become to no longer desire anything other than friends, family and health. I hope that my music inspires people to think in similar ways but if not I’m grateful that it inspires me.”

Ever since forming in 2014, The Assist have had their finger on the pulse of how the modern generation consume music. Soaking their soaring indie anthems with hip-hop-inflected beats, dance-tinged rhythms and emotive breakdowns. It’s this eclectic adventurism that has seen The Assist sell out venues across the UK as well as share the stage with Blossoms, The Twang and Dylan John Thomas. ‘The Luckiest Man’ is another entry to the band’s commendable canon, who are most certainly in the Jack Grealish category of assists. Speaking of football, the band previously enjoyed a starring slot on the landmark television show Soccer AM. Whilst away from the pitch they’ve graced big stages at festivals such as Reading & Leeds, TRANSMT, Y-NOT and Isle of Wight. Their 2021 debut album, ‘Council-Pop’, entered the UK charts at number 21 and led to a top 10 independent album. You may have previously heard The Assist on BBC Radio 6 and Radio X where they have been praised by the likes of Tom Robinson, Steve Lamacq and John Kennedy.

As much as The Assist’s more reflective notions have shone through in their most recent releases, this track is an embodiment of who the band are as people. With 2024 came a new-found pride in their art, their biggest ever gigs, and now, an extended catalogue of youthful indie-anthems tucked into their back pocket.

Their upcoming album ‘Disconnections’ is out on the 2nd of May.

Marseille Release New Single ‘History’

Marseille enlist Wolf Alice producer for ambitious and downright ballsy indie-rock single ‘History’.

Marseille return with what is absolutely their best work to date, ‘History’. It’s heartfelt, ambitious, and in your face, it will be sure to be the focal point of any indie-rock playlist you have this year. The track has already secured airplay on BBC 6 Music’s ‘Indie Forever’ show as their ‘Indie-pendence Play’ and received praise from highly regarded music tastemakers The Line Of Best Fit as the band set to win over legions of new fans with this new tune.

Hailing from the depths of northern Derbyshire, the five-piece indie rock/shoegaze band have been making waves in the UK music scene, reviving a scene which never really died. At an average age of just 19, the group—featuring Will Brown (vocals), Joe Labram (lead guitar), Lennon Hall (guitar), Will Sabey (bass), and Tom Spray (drums) have already completed a successful UK tour, selling out 150-250 capacity venues.

Marseille have been busy laying down the foundations for an eye catching 2025 after 2 years of grafting, playing encapsulating shows and honing their sound. With the Oasis reunion this year and a new wave of Brit-pop set to sweep the country, it’s an exciting time for Marseille who carry a zero-fucks given swagger with waves of psych, groove and emotion moving through their tracks, making sure the audience never has a moment to lose interest.

‘History’ is a track that really tugs at the heartstrings, a song that is a love letter to the dreams we all had as children, being remembered as a legend of your era. But all the while having that big beat in your face swagger that Marseille naturally carries around wherever they go. A gorgeously well-crafted song which is most excellently brought to life by Wolf Alice’s producer Michael Smith.

On the track, singer Will Brown said, “History is a simple song which applies to any young person with big aspirations. It’s probably the most personal to us as a collective as we fit that criterion. We are 5 young lads that want our legacy to be remembered, and that is one of the most special things that anyone can ever write about.”

Over 2024 Marseille played some very notable shows such as the Quarry Stage at YNOT in front of 4,000 people, Isle Of Wight festival, Manchester Academy 2. They also supported The Twang at Leicester Academy and supported The Bluetones in Lancaster at the Kanteena.

The band have also received backing from clothing brand Pretty Green which is something both parties plan to build on in 2025.

‘History’ is out now via Echo Bass Records across all major streaming platforms & CD, with a 7” vinyl release to follow on 14th March.

Marseille 2025 Single Launch Dates:

The Montagues Release New EP ‘Verona’

The Montagues are back, and their new EP Verona is an emotionally charged ride through the band’s soul. If you’re looking for indie rock with an emotional punch, almost as though it could fit into most episodes of The O.C, this is it. Verona reflects the highs, lows, and emotional battles the band has faced in recent years, serving as a cathartic release of pain, love, and hope.

Recorded at Liverpool’s legendary Motor Museum Studios with producer Ben Harper, Verona sees The Montagues at their most united. The five-piece worked in seamless harmony to craft a collection that feels raw, real, and honest. Their signature indie sound gets a heavier twist here, pulling from influences like Nothing But Thieves, Muse, and Queens of the Stone Age. The result? An EP that blends soaring rock anthems with introspective tracks, offering a perfect balance of heart-pounding energy and emotional depth.

The EP opens with “Juicebox,” a rip-roaring modern rock track about standing by a loved one enduring a major medical procedure from a young age. Its powerful message of unconditional love—”I will love you even more, no matter the scars along the way”—is one of comfort, resilience, and hope. The song is as cathartic as it is uplifting, with emotional guitar breaks and crescendos that roar like an emotional release, encapsulating the power of love through adversity.

Next is “Vehemently,” a beautiful and heartfelt track described as an oath to a partner, promising to be there “for the highs and the lows.” The Montagues venture into new territory here, adding brass and string sections to complement their melodic indie rock foundation, heightening the emotion of support and devotion. The track showcases the band’s ability to push their sound into fresh, unexplored areas.

Track three, “Gravitate,” is a bold anthem about taking the leap of faith and embracing new directions in life. With the lyric “Don’t hesitate, your feet are on the edge,” the band captures the courage required to make transformative decisions. The song’s energy reflects that brave, exhilarating moment when you stop second-guessing and gravitate toward your future.

Then comes “Circus,” a haunting yet hypnotic track described as a “subliminal mind mess.” It weaves melodic optimism with gritty guitar work, exploring emotional chaos and inner turmoil while still offering glimmers of hope. With its hypnotic rhythms and swirling melodies, Circus pulls listeners into the tension of staying hopeful even when life feels overwhelming, delivering one of the most nuanced tracks on the EP.

The EP closes with “Breathe,” a deeply personal song about the loss of a father, who was both a mentor and guiding force in life and music. Frontman Kyle Parry’s raw emotion bleeds through the lyric “Feels like you’re always by my side,” as he reflects on his father’s influence and presence, even in his absence. It’s a poignant end to Verona, resonating with anyone who has experienced the complex, enduring nature of grief and love.At its core, Verona is a triumph, proving that out of darkness can come beauty. Keep an eye on The Montagues—they’re only getting started.

Indie Revolution EP Of The Month – The Kaves ‘Peace Love Mayhem’

The Kaves release their debut EP ‘Peace Love Mayhem’. The EP is undoubtedly a showcase of the band’s ability to write songs for every emotion. Already released singles ‘Complacency’ has a grittier sound, whilst
summer release ‘Unknown Number’ is your go to singalong indie song.

The Last Glass and Fading To The Back Of The Room will be released for the first time on the EP. The Last
Glass is the band’s most cinematic song to date. It carries an atmosphere fit for any Bond film. The song

Indie Revolution Single Of The Week – Hazy Sundays ‘Get Some’

Indie Revolution’s Single Of The Week goes to Hazy Sundays with their great new track ‘Get Some’.

After the summer release of the bands debut EP ‘Give Me Some Dopamine’, Hazy Sundays return with a brand new single recorded at Gorbals Sound Studios in Glasgow, ‘Get Some’. The track is a triumphant return with the band sounding sonically better than ever before.

‘Get Some’ starts with an infectious guitar riff and building with some powerhouse drumming the song comes to life before giving you time to breathe in the verses before lifting again in the choruses. Singer Shaun Kenny sings the chorus about “Old time rock n roll” and the songs sound pings back to a time where guitar music fans would have their hands around their mates bouncing about. The song builds to a finishing chorus that comes to a crushing crescendo as the song soars to its peak before finishing on the four minute mark. A real indie-rock banger filled with pure nostalgia.

Hazy Sundays are a four-piece rock band from Glasgow, Scotland, formed in Late 2022. The band has been making waves on the indie scene since starting off and in their first year together released eight singles.
Hazy Sundays play fast-paced, energetic music but also show a softer side with some slower, acoustic songs.
