Indie Revolution Single Of The Week – Caitlin Lavagna ‘October’

Indie Revolutions Single Of The Week is the stunningly emotive ‘October’ by Caitlin Lavagna.

This year, Caitlin Lavagna has gone from strength to strength both musically and in her acting career. After the hugely successful release of her single ‘Gold’ which made her a BBC Radio Wales Welsh A-Lister for for the first time, Caitlin was invited into the BBC Studios in Cardiff to perform two of her original songs as well as being interviewed live on air. After success stints in ‘Turning the Wheel’ and a UK Tour of ‘Operation Julie’, Caitlin then appeared on the BBC Radio Wales’ Welsh A-List for a second time with ‘Pretty Alright’ a song about overcoming self doubt and body image issues and understanding your own bad habits and emotional trauma.

She has gone on to headline Rhondda Arts Festival, appear on the line-up for this years Gen Z Fest and Wokingham Festival, took on the role of ‘Mrs Gloop’ in Charlie And The Chocolate Factory at Aberystwyth Arts Centre and returned to her roots in Gibraltar as part of The Weekender line up.

About October:
“This time last year my career was bursting with excitement and opportunities were flowing. I was performing in a show I adored, finding new friends, traveling to new places and I had someone special, who I felt really saw me, to share it all with. Then, I was left completely and utterly ghosted, left behind and vulnerable. The song follows a year of being ignored by someone who I believed loved me. I suppose releasing it now makes it a cathartic song, attempting to take back my favorite month, a time for me. I want to take the listener on a personal, raw and honest journey of grief and unexplained loss. Quite simply, a brutal end to a beautiful connection.” – Caitlin Lavagna

‘October’ is a truly heartfelt and heart-wrenching song, sung with such real emotion. Caitlin’s voice is on point as usual, her best release to date, a true talent. ‘October’ is out now which will be accompanied by a stunning music video later this month.

Indie Revolution Single Of The Week – Hazy Sundays ‘Get Some’

Indie Revolution’s Single Of The Week goes to Hazy Sundays with their great new track ‘Get Some’.

After the summer release of the bands debut EP ‘Give Me Some Dopamine’, Hazy Sundays return with a brand new single recorded at Gorbals Sound Studios in Glasgow, ‘Get Some’. The track is a triumphant return with the band sounding sonically better than ever before.

‘Get Some’ starts with an infectious guitar riff and building with some powerhouse drumming the song comes to life before giving you time to breathe in the verses before lifting again in the choruses. Singer Shaun Kenny sings the chorus about “Old time rock n roll” and the songs sound pings back to a time where guitar music fans would have their hands around their mates bouncing about. The song builds to a finishing chorus that comes to a crushing crescendo as the song soars to its peak before finishing on the four minute mark. A real indie-rock banger filled with pure nostalgia.

Hazy Sundays are a four-piece rock band from Glasgow, Scotland, formed in Late 2022. The band has been making waves on the indie scene since starting off and in their first year together released eight singles.
Hazy Sundays play fast-paced, energetic music but also show a softer side with some slower, acoustic songs.

The band have been gigging relentlessly in the first year together and have supported the likes of Reverend and the Makers, and played alongside John Power (Cast) Shambolics, Chris Helme (The seahorses) and Bez (Happy Mondays) Had radio play and featured on John Kennedy’s X-posure radio X show.

‘Get Some’ is out now across all major streaming platforms.

Indie Revolution Single Of The Week – Marionette ‘Your Hand’

New Cardiff Band ‘Marionette’ have today announced their brand new debut single ‘Your Hand’ out now, and is this weeks chosen Single Of The Week for Indie Revolution.

Marionette made their well received debut on the Adam Walton BBC Introducing in Wales show on BBC Radio Wales on Saturday evening, which was deemed as ‘…a powerful and impressive debut!’ by Adam Walton.

Hailing from the heart of South Wales, Marionette is an indie alternative rock band that weaves together the sharp, melodic sensibilities of The Strokes, the eclectic flair of Mini Mansions, and the Britpop cool of Blur. Originally founded as a covers band by two childhood friends, Marionette has evolved into a powerful four-piece, crafting original music that resonates with the energy and authenticity of the modern rock scene.

The band’s story began in the close quarters of a university house, where the two founding members spent countless nights writing songs, experimenting with sounds, and dreaming of a bigger stage. Their deep-rooted friendship and shared passion for music laid the groundwork for what would eventually become Marionette. As their songwriting skills sharpened and their creative vision became clearer, they knew it was time to take their music beyond the confines of their living room.

With the addition of two new members who brought fresh influences and dynamic energy, Marionette transformed into a full-fledged band ready to take on the local music scene. They quickly made a name for themselves in South Wales, performing at local venues where their original music captivated audiences with its blend of jangly guitar riffs, punchy rhythms, and introspective lyrics. Each performance reinforced their belief that they were onto something special—creating a sound that is both nostalgic and refreshingly original, echoing the best of the past while firmly looking toward the future.

With a growing reputation across South Wales and beyond, Marionette is poised to make their mark on the UK music scene, offering a fresh take on the alternative rock genre that is as infectious as it is authentic.

Marionette said this about the track…….

“Our new release is called ‘Your Hand’ and it’ll be our first release. The lyrics were written about the walk home from a first date, initially feeling anxious about how everything went but then throughout the song feeling more and more excited about the future with this person. The main guitar part was written first, channeling a massive grungy sound. To balance this the second guitar plays a more jangly Smiths-esque line in the verses. This all comes together with driving bass and huge drums, and of course the drum solos to leave some room for dancing after the choruses.

The song has been a favourite both in the band and for the audiences we’ve played to, so we knew we wanted this to be our first single. We recorded it over two days in the summer at Hot Jam in Bridgend, with the help of William’s brother Alex and the ever loving and patient Colm Foxon – the engineer and owner of the studio. The track was mixed and mastered by the great Charlie Francis who we owe the tight and punchy sound to.

‘Your Hand’ is out now across all streaming platforms.

Indie Revolution Single Of The Week – Skäl ‘All Of The People’

Indie Revolutions Single Of The Week is the infectious debut single from Cheshire band Skäl.

Skäl are an alternative five piece rock band from Winsford in Cheshire and a brand new signing to Snowdonia Records, the North Wales based record label that’s home to Holy Coves, Sister Envy, Box of Trash, Subterrania.

The band is made up of Ev Kirwan on vocals, Jack Enty on guitar, Darcy Smith on guitar and backing vocals, Adam Latham on bass and Tom Giltrow on drums and backing vocals.

‘All Of The People’ is an urgent, infectious and exciting debut track from Skäl, that bursts out of the speakers on a wave of tremulous guitar hooks, grooving bass lines and quickfire drums, while Ev Kirwan’s vocals hook you in with a swaggering confidence as the song spirals into a frenetic guitar anthem and a rollicking crescendo with fantastic carousel of guitar solos. It reminds one of the resplendent early sound of The Stone Roses, they call it a  “cross between The Verve and The Replacements“.

It’s a frenetic union of anthemic melodies, floor filling grooves and uproarious rock, with an all for one attitude of all the best fledgling gangs possess. Engineered, produced and mixed by Jono Tringham,  was recorded at Allo Sounds in Studio Widnes.

They cite bands like Smashing Pumpkins,  The Verve, The Las, The Replacements, Pixies, Echo and the Bunnymen, Wunderhorse, High Vis and The Real People as an influences yet they are filtered through young magpie eyes of emerging musicians from their hometown of Winsford, with a knack for melodic shots of rock songs, with a burning ambition to be heard by as many people as possible. With a string of releases and shows in the works their unmissable debut single ‘All Of The People’ is a statement of intent.

Indie Revolution Single Of The Week – The Silver Lines ‘Watch Yourself Boy’

Indie Revolutions Single Of The Week goes to the fantastic, high-energy single ‘Watch Yourself Boy’ by genre-defying band The Silver Lines, the latest track from their upcoming EP.

The Silver Lines are the fantastic Birmingham based alt indie rock band made up of brothers Dan and Joe Ravenscroft on lead Vocals and Guitar respectively, George Vivian on Bass and  Kindo on Drums.

The Silver Lines were first formed in 2018 by the two brothers who said they were “uninspired by the current landscape of guitar music” and as such, decided that they were going to take matters into their own hands and make music of their own.

“Repulsed by the notion of being just another ‘all white male indie’ band that sings of teenage love or rants empty pseudo prophetic quotes”, The Silver Lines set out to release new music that defies the genre and the peers within it. The product is a very self aware form of songwriting that covers many taboo topics from toxic masculinity, learnt behaviours from past generations, and explores personal experiences that connect with the listener on a much deeper level.

Speaking about the single, the band comment: “Watch Yourself Boy is a clever take on the ‘Rock N Roll lifestyle’. We all say we would love to live like rock stars but do we really mean it? Lyrically it’s narrated in a way of ambiguity for interpretation. Musically it’s driven, unrelenting and very heavy. It’s an echo to the previous single Cocaine.”

They add: “Based around four notes, the key is in its simplicity and use of light and shade to gain it’s effectiveness. In contrast to the previous period of The Silver Lines, this era of the band is focusing a lot more on what works with a live performance and how simple the song can be whilst being effective.”

Discussing their forthcoming EP, The Silver Lines explain: “…And The Lord Don’t Think I Can Handle It captures the energy of our live sound — angsty, bold, yet more introspective than their earlier records. The tracks depict the cyclical nature of our lives, swinging from chaotic moments to nostalgic reflections.”

Indie Revolution Single Of The Week – Marseille ‘If It Hurts Don’t Cry’

Indie Revolutions Single Of The Week goes to Marseille with their final single taken from the highly anticipated ‘Godiva’ EP ‘If It Hurts Don’t Cry’.

“If It Hurts, Don’t Cry” is heartfelt and a reflection on what could have been, before exploding into a euphoric, inspirational wall of guitars and strings. Elements of The Verve fused with the groove and elegance of the late 60’s Rolling Stones and a hint of attitude comparable to early Oasis in the build up of the track into its explosive end. The song opens with acoustic guitar before a majestic slide guitar track slowly introduces us to angelic soulful vocals. The song takes us on a journey of feelings of regret and wishing for a second chance before the band erupts into an uplifting inspirational ending representing a sense of optimism going forward. The sort of optimism that these young lads should be showing based on where their career is headed. Marseille truly do not seem to be fazed by the amount of talent and dedication they are putting into their craft and future careers; they are so driven to get to where they want to be, and it shows.

“If It Hurts, Don’t Cry has been an idea that has been in the tank for a while. It was a gorgeous ballad, but I had never figured out how to round off the song. The day it came to me I took it to the lads, and it blew everyone away. A sign of a great song.” – Will Brown

Marseille are the Derbyshire based five-piece band consisting of Will Brown on Vocals/Rhythm Guitar, Joe Labram on Lead Guitar/Backing Vocals, Lennon Hall on Rhythm Guitar/Backing Vocals, Will Sabey on Bass and Tom Spray on Drums/Percussion.

Formed in 2021, the band have wasted no time in getting down to business showcasing an impressive momentum in releasing an envious array of hit singles to date to include the 2022 releases of ‘Forget It All’ ‘Might As Well Be Mine’ and ‘The Jungle’ including the Vega Rally Remix of the track and the b-side of ‘The Universe Is Yours’ and the 2023 releases of ‘Only Just Begun’ ‘Thinker’‘This Dream Of Mine’ and ‘Devil’s Gonna Get You’ and their first release of 2024, the epic, psychedelic anthem of ‘Monkey In The Middle’ – all of which were received to much critical acclaim and support from the likes of Soccer AM, BBC Radio introducing, Steve La Macq on BBC Radio 6, John Kennedy on Radio X, Rodney Bingenheimer on Sirius XM Radio in America and online praise from industry legends and peers such as Rick Witter from Shed Seven and Aziz Ibrahim from The Stone Roses, plus extensive reviews and features in the music press.

Indie Revolution Single Of Week – Vivas ‘Out To Get Me’

Indie Revolutions Single Of The Week goes to Vivas with their new single ‘Out To Get Me’!

VIVAS are the Sheffield based band consisting of James Wilson on Lead vocals/rhythm guitar,  Tyler Savage on Lead guitar/backing vocals, Kane Ibbertson on Bass/backing vocals and Keaton Barker on Drums.

Although only formed in the past year, VIVAS  have already achieved so much as a band bringing a positive and highly infectious approach to their music. VIVAS are a  classic Indie Rock  band that bring the energy and attitude in abundance making for some great music and some pretty high octane live performances too!

Live performances so far have seen them play to a sold out Sheffield’s ‘Sidney & Matilda’ and ‘The Leadmill’, and they have already embarked on their first UK Tour selling out venues in cities such as Leeds, Glasgow and Manchester.

In their first year  VIVAS released an impressive total of 3 singles, being ‘Sweet Talker’ in March, ‘It’s Alright’ in July and ‘Feel’ in November. All 3 singles were received with a warm welcome from fans old and new as well as from press and radio from the likes of BBC Introducing, Amazing Radio and the Sheffield Star as well as gaining the band in excess of 40k streams on Spotify alone.

Following on from this success, VIVAS decided to make a bold statement move and to try something entirely different by releasing their own re-worked version of undoubtedly one of the biggest hits in mainstream music of recent years; by covering ‘As It Was’ originally by Harry Styles.

Following up on the success of this VIVAS are now ready to release their follow up single, ‘Out To Get Me’.

‘Out To Get Me’ starts off with echoing, almost haunting opening lyrics which are quickly joined by crashing rhythmic drumming as the track picks up pace. The lyrics are poignant and feel like there’s a real story being told here. The chorus hook of “It’s really no surprise they’re out to get me” is really belted out and is followed up with blistering guitar solos, making this overall a really anthemic track.

The band have said of the new single:

“‘Out To Get Me’ is a song that is all about suffering from anxiety. It is the most lyrically driven song we have done to date as it embodies someone who feels like the whole world is watching them wherever they go, and everyone is out to get them.”

‘Out To Get Me’ was recorded by the band at West Homesick Studios in Sheffield and was Produced by Federico Telesca.

VIVAS  have already undertaken a UK Tour this year which saw them play a Sold Out  show at The Leadmill Sheffield  with The Lottery Winners and this summer will also see the band perform on The Leadmill Stage at Tramlines Festival and supporting rock legends Def Leppard and Motley Crue at The Lytham Festival

All in all 2024 promises to be a massive year for this young  band as they continue to make huge waves on the music scene.

Indie Revolution Single Of The Week – The Avelons ‘Since Monday’

Indie Revolutions chosen single of the week is the sparkling ‘Since Monday’ by The Avelons.

With spine-tingling guitar riffs, and vocals that effortlessly captivate, the Newcastle-based indie rockers continue to propel themselves into a new era with this latest single, which carries a reminiscent sound.
An anthem inspired by an unforgettable encounter with a person who feels destined to be a huge part of your life, ‘Since Monday’ is the soundtrack to moments of pure euphoria and joy.

Wrapped up in this buzzy, jangly indie pop tune, it perfectly captures the intoxicating bliss of nights you wish could last forever. In his own words, lead singer Jack shares the meaning behind his lyrics: “Have you ever encountered someone and suddenly found yourself soaring on cloud nine, floating home with an idiotic grin and a belly full of fire? Well, Since Monday is that feeling.

It’s the euphoria of discovering that person, your person. Last week I couldn’t have given a sh**, but since that Monday, I want to give you my everything. Last week I couldn’t be bothered to go downstairs… but since that Monday, I’d go to the ends of the Earth to get to see you again.”

Fast carving out their own worthy place in the current indie scene, The Avelons have electrified audiences with sold-out shows and secured support slots alongside favoured bands like The Clause, Stanleys, and Tom A Smith. Having rocked their largest audience yet at The Cluny, they are now set to take the stage at this year’s Isle of Wight Festival.
