THE HEAVY NORTH ANNOUNCE NEW SINGLE AND DEBUT LIVE ALBUM ‘FIRE IN THE FURNACE’

3 months on from the band’s biggest show to date, Liverpool blues rock band The Heavy North have announced the release of ‘The Genie (Live)’ – the first single taken from their upcoming debut live album ‘Fire In The Furnace’ scheduled for release later this year.

Previously released as the opening track on the band’s critically acclaimed debut album ‘Electric Soul Machine’ album in 2022, upcoming single ‘The Genie (Live)’ was recorded at The Heavy North’s 12-piece band headline show at the Camp and Furnace in Liverpool’s Baltic Triangle in December 2023 and produced by the band’s guitarist Jose Ibanez at 3rd Planet Recording Studios

The live recording of ‘The Genie’ features guest musicians the Northern String Quartet, backing vocalists Rosalie Galvin and Molly Fryo, trumpet player Lozza Taylor and saxophonist Ste Powell who performed alongside The Heavy North’s vocalist Kenny Stuart, guitarists Jose Ibanez and Jack Birch, bass player Andrew Horrocks, keys player Ste Penn and drummer Mark Rice.

The band’s live album ‘Fire In the Furnace’ features 20 original tracks from The Heavy North’s debut EP ‘Dive Bar Blues’ (2020), the band’s debut album ‘Electric Soul Machine’ (2022) and last year’s follow-up LP ‘Delta Shakedown’ (2023).

To coincide with the album release, The Heavy North have also confirmed the full feature-length ‘Fire In The Furnace’ concert film will be released later this year on selected streaming platforms and cinemas.

Discussing the new single and upcoming live album, The Heavy North frontman Kenny Stuart said “For anyone who attended our headline show at the Camp and Furnace back in December, we hope you’ll agree it was a boss night – and we can’t wait to share the live recordings with everyone. It was great to perform so many of our original tracks with a string quartet, a brass section and backing singers, and it’s something not a lot of bands are able to do”.

“Thanks to everyone who helped make the Camp and Furnace show a success and to everyone who came along, and me and the lads hope our live album captures the atmosphere and the energy of the night” said Kenny.

The Heavy North guitarist and producer Jose Ibanez added “We would also like to thank our friends at Adlib Audio and Green Frog Productions for recording the show, and a special thanks to Martin Kuchta at Roughgrain for mastering all of our tracks – including our upcoming single The Genie”

“By releasing the full live album and concert film we hope to give everyone the opportunity to experience The Heavy North’s live performance from the show and hear some of our tracks performed in a different way” said Jose.

The Heavy North’s new single ‘The Genie (Live)’ will be available from Friday 15th March 2024 on all download and streaming platforms.

The Heavy North Release New Album ‘Delta Shakedown’

The Heavy North release World Class second album ‘Delta Shakedown’

Liverpool’s finest The Heavy North have just released one of the best albums of 2023 and it’s called ‘Delta Shakedown’. In fact that’s a bit of an understatement! They’ve just released one of the best albums of the past decade! Possibly even the past thirty years? All in good time this will tell I’m sure.

I first heard of The Heavy North when their debut album ‘Electric Soul Machine’ Dropped last year and I was instantly sucked into their riffed up blues rock world. I’m a sucker for great music! What they created on that record was brilliant. On their latest offering they have just gone and created a monster!
The best kind of monster ever imaginable! This is one of the best records I’ve heard in my entire life let alone the past decade! It’s a big statement I know, but it is what it is. This record is something special.

From the very first riff of the opening track ‘Delta Shakedown’ I’m instantly transported back into The Heavy North world I love so much! I’m back travelling with them on this laid back, groovy journey in my car! There are so many great influences shining through on this record! The Doors, Thirteen Floor Elevators, The Black Angels, The Eagles, Cream, The list goes on! Its truer to blues as it could possibly be.

With all these great influences shining through they still manage to create something completely original that sounds how only The Heavy North can sound. This is a master craft of songwriting and a band at the very top of their game. It oozes class and experience.

This isn’t a record a young band in their twenties can just make off the cuff! This takes years of crafting your art over time. This isn’t a band making singles for Spotify! This is a band who really understand and appreciate the art of making a real record together! An art that’s lost on 99% of young band these days! I really hope some younger bands use this to educate themselves and one day we get that back!

If I had to pick one album to take with me to the desert today it would be ‘Delta Shakedown’. This is my number one contender for album of the year by far.

As strong as the singles ‘Where Are You Now’ and ‘Round Again’ are you really have to listen to the list the way it’s supposed to be listened to! As a record in full from beginning to end. Then you will truly understand just how great this band are!

Jose Ibanez has proven he’s one of the best producers in the business. The production is world class. In 30 years time we will be all able to look back and realise just how great this record is.

‘Delta Shakedown’ is OUT NOW on 12” gatefold colour vinyl, CD and all download and streaming platforms. Visit www.theheavynorth.com for more information.

Paul Askew Releases Single ‘When The Sun Came Up’

Hailing from Liverpool, 22 year old indie rock artist Paul Askew released his fantastic new single earlier this year ‘When the Sun Came Up’, it’s captivating with pure nostalgia.

As heard on BBC Radio London, Paul Askew is a solo artist who writes, performs, arranges, and produces his own songs. Since starting to write from the age of 16 in 2017, he has managed to build up a vast collection of songs and counting.

As a result of his primary influences including the likes of The Strokes, The Beach Boys, Oasis, The Beatles, Fleetwood Mac and The La’s, he focuses on generating captivating melodies, artistic lyricism, and maintaining the traditional pop-rock sensibilities of the 60s. Nonetheless, his other inspirations -which range from the Sex Pistols to Clairo- mean his songs can range in a variety of styles, moods, and structures, all the while maintaining a gripping pop veneer which any listener can tune into easily.
