Poppy Wizard Release New Single ‘Maze’

 Alt-rock band POPPY WIZARD released their debut EP “Holy Spirit Gang” in August, sparking an initial echo in the shoegaze and emo scene. Now the quartet is unleashing a new single, “Maze”, which combines powerful riffs with hypnotic vocals. The result is a dense wall of sound that is broken up in places with haunting shouts.

The song is about overthinking. Partly metaphorical, partly pragmatic, it describes the feeling of being trapped in your own head and not being able to think calmly,” comments singer and guitarist Hendrik Dyga.

Originally started as a two-piece creative experiment during the Corona pandemic in Düsseldorf and Cologne, Poppy Wizard has evolved into a band project driven by the shared passion of four longtime friends. Their music is a captivating mix of powerful, melodic and danceable songs that captivates the audience. Inspired by the various addictions of life, their sound oscillates between heavy, dreamy and undulating structures that will delight fans of modern fuzz rock and grungegaze.

Poppy Wizard is Hendrik Dyga – Guitars & Vocals, Lukas Andrzejewski – Guitars, Robin Kwasniewski – Bass and Philipp Baum – Drums

Maze Release Brand New Single ‘Step Too Soon’

Maze are the 6 piece South London band consisting of Gary Davis on lead vocals, Paul Hancock on acoustic guitar and backing vocals, Paul Bassom on rhythm guitar, Scott Forsyth on lead guitar, Ben Rutherford on bass and Aaron Palmer on drums. The latest release from the band ‘Step Too Soon’ also features a guest appearance by The Rifles Dean Mumford on Strings and instrumentals.

It’s fair to say that Maze are a band with their roots firmly cemented in the halcyon days of Britpop glory and indeed, cite their influences to include the likes of Oasis, Ocean Colour Scene and The Stone Roses.They use these influences to inspire them to create a sound which is both familiar but somehow brand new and fresh at the same time.

The band quickly gained a large fan base following the release of their first couple of singles which in turn led them to gaining the attention of some major industry figureheads which also resulted in them landing a publishing deal with Sony Music

In April 2002 the band released their debut album ‘Chaos Interrupted’ which was met to much critical acclaim from the likes of Jammerzine who saidThis is an album that, to me, is the perfect example of what a true album should be. A set of songs that flow into each other in such a way as to create a flow, much like a good book.  and which has also attained over 105k streams on Spotify alone to date.

The brand new single from Maze ‘Step Too Soon’ is another sure fire classic from this incredibly exciting band. It starts off with a wistful acoustic instrumental vibe and dreamy vocals which is quickly perked up by electric guitars and fast paced drum beats. The vocals are allowed to shine throughout taking centre stage and giving an overall nostalgic, hazy feel to the track.

Lyrically the track depicts a tale of regret of having walked away from a situation rather than facing up to it. Indeed the band have said about the track;

“‘Step Too Soon’ is a song all about not pushing people away, about the need for being open and honest and being able to talk to someone rather than bottling it all up inside”.

 ‘Step Too Soon’ was written by Paul Bassom and was recorded at Backroom Studios and was produced by Eddie Thomas from Marquis Drive and is being published by 50/50 globalmuzik

Maze have a gig coming up on December 23rd at The Concorde, Brighton.
