Indie Revolution Single Of The Week – Megan Wyn ‘Waiting For A Reason’

Indie Revolution’s Single of The Week is Anglesey born Megan Wyn with her brand new single ‘Waiting For A Reason’.

Megan Wyn has spent the last 12 months building an army of new fans from across the UK, and it all started by arming herself with an inventory of songs well beyond her years.

Earlier cuts, ‘You Don’t Get It’, ‘Familiar Faces’ and ‘Are You Bored Yet?’, made a long-lasting impression on new music scenesters writ-large. With her self-deprecating lyricism, which can be on the nose at times, Megan has developed a wall of sound that can only really be compared to her Welsh elders Manic Street Preachers and Catfish and The Bottlemen

Already in the last year the young star to be has packed out rooms on the metropolitan festival circuit at places such as Twisterella, Beyond the Music, Stockton Calling, Liverpool Sound City and Focus Wales. She has also sold out shows in her new home of Manchester, as well as Liverpool and London.

Elsewhere, Megan has supported indie heroes past and present in Swim Deep, Little Comets, Sundara Karma, Andrew Cushin, The K’s and others at sold out shows across the UK

There is something authentic building with Megan, the fruits of her labour after years of playing the circuit from the early age of 16 are starting to rear their heads and as her sound is blooming, it is no surprise that her fanbase is too.

At radio, Megan has already had playlist support from Radio X alongside a live session with John Kennedy. Amazing Radio also added previous single, ‘Familiar Faces’ to their A-List which saw the track get to a top 20 placement on their chart. She also did a live session with BBC introducing Manchester, whilst gaining repeat support at BBC Radio London and BBC Radio Merseyside including a live session for the latter.

Wyn was also Huw Stephens‘ Artist of The Week on BBC Radio Wales and added to the station’s playlist. Wyn also had support at Spotify UK with placement on tastemaker playlists such as Proper Belters & Fresh Finds UK & IE.

On the brand new single, the Welsh artist shows that age really is just a number and talent is something that is unimpeded by that number. The track swells in the introduction prior to exploding into life and feeding first time listeners with the ultimate payoff of raw, undeniable talent. Rare that an artist is effortlessly cool whilst calling upon pop sensibilities relentlessly. Wistful but assured in equal measure, it sounds exactly like a teenager figuring themselves out.

Speaking about the song, Megan said: “This song focuses on looking at my own flaws in navigating a relationship and the feelings of naivety, guilt, and loneliness that come with it. It focuses on the polarities of behaviour that we encounter when coping with suffering, and that we always want what is bad for us.”

As the year progresses, Megan is booked for more and more shows, and this summer will be her busiest yet with slots at key festivals such as Kendal Calling, Y Not Festival and Liverpool Sound City in the calendar already. She will also be setting off to Sweden to play her first international show to boot.

2024 promises to be a truly stellar year for Wyn with a headline tour + debut EP to follow later this year, the world truly is the young starlet’s oyster.

‘Waiting For A Reason’, was written with and produced by Alex Quinn (The Royston Club, Lottery Winners, Overpass) over the course of an extensive period of writing in Summer 2022.

Previous years saw Megan play The Great Escape, Truck Festival, Y Not and Isle Of Wight Festival. And she completed her debut headline tour earlier in the year.

An old head on young shoulders, Megan rightly feels that she has reached her starting point. With live experiences already in the bag, it was just a matter of honing her sound and landing on something that was truly representative of herself.

It’s also true that moving from her native Anglesey just off the Welsh coast, to her now home of Manchester at the age of 16, would have helped Megan develop not only as a musician but most importantly as a woman.

Megan grew up wanting exactly what she has now, the ability to put pen to paper and have songs fall out of her, to play shows to packed out venues in Manchester, as well as, elsewhere.

Indie Revolution At Focus Wales 2024

Focus Wales is an exciting event at the heart of Wrexham that has been going for over a decade now. It’s a great event for discovering new bands and a fantastic opportunity for anyone in the music industry to network. With three days of acts from around the world there is something for everyone.

We had scheduled so many exciting acts to see that over the course of the weekend we must have walked a thousand miles! The first act that stood out to us was The Silver Lines at a fantastic venue called Hope Street Church. The band is genre defying with songwriting that covers all matter of taboo topics. We were totally blown away by them. Their fantastic new single ‘Cocaine’ is out now.

An act that has resonated with me all week since the festival is the wonderful Charm Of Finches, an Australian sister duo who performed within the stunning St. Giles Church, the setting was just perfect for their ethereal and enchanting performance. A song that really captured me was ‘Clean Cut’.

Megan Wyn rocked it out at The Rockin’ Chair. Megan is an Anglesey born artist who is destined to go far, for such a young age she has already accomplished so much as a musician. She gave an excellent performance, reminiscent of Debbie Harry from Blondie or even the likes of PJ Harvey.

The Garrys are a sibling quartet from Canada consisting of three sisters and their brother who make surf music dripping with nostalgia that could be straight out of a Quentin Tarantino movie soundtrack. They gave a fun and groovy performance at The Parish.

The Royston Club played the main stage Llwyn Isaf, they played a blistering set to a passionate Wrexham crowd who totally soaked them up. With immense vocals they delivered great song lyrics perfect for anthem singalongs, you could feel the crowds love for the band. What another great moment for these talented home town boys.

North Wales band Holy Coves played an electrifying set to an eager crowd at Hope Street Church, the venue was packed out with people listening in off the street. They opened with the vibrant Away We Go and closed with the darkly devastating Droner, they had the crowd in the palm of their hands. If they return to Focus Wales 2025 they will most certainly need a bigger venue.

Adwaith who are a Welsh band to the core played a stomping set at The Rockin’ Chair, the highlight was hearing their latest single MWY, a track that is made to be played live.

Sister Envy are a North Wales band signed to Snowdonia Records (along with Holy Coves). They played their debut at Focus Wales in the Wynnstay Arms and blew the crowd away. The very same day they released their second single ‘Tide’. This is a band that will go far with their exceptional talents.

Spiritualized, a prolific songwriter and musician of Space Rock delivered a beautiful set. It was great for the long time fans but maybe could of done with some of their more popular songs, they were still on fire and delivered a fantastic performance.

That was to name a few, there were many more I would of liked to have seen, for example, Mr. Phormula, Hazmat, Gallops, CVC, Chalk, the list goes on, it was impossible to be everywhere at once but it demonstrates the great variety of talent showcased at Focus Wales. The weekend was packed with astonishing performances from so many accomplished artists. I’m eager to see what Focus Wales 2025 brings us!

Super early bird tickets are now available for Focus Wales 2025 via the link below!

Megan Wyn Releases New Single ‘Are You Bored Yet?’

Welsh, female artist Megan Wyn releases another great single ‘Are You Bored Yet?’ Megan’s sound has grown in maturity and as always her voice is spot on, such a fantastic talent for such a young age.

Megan has an exciting year ahead with her debut EP set to be released and a headline UK tour with a gig in London set for March 13th.

Megan says of the song:
Are You Bored Yet is a song about holding on to someone who isn’t good for you. It’s a song about that period of time when a relationship is coming to an end and you keep asking yourself if you’re bored of trying to make a toxic situation work.”

Megan Wyn Releases New Single ‘Familiar Faces’

2023 is looking like the year Megan Wyn finally captures the imagination of the people who have somehow missed her slow and steady rise through the ranks over the last two years.

At the age of just 18, the young starlet-to-be has already achieved so much in her already fledgling career, but latest release, ‘You Don’t Get It’, has certainly started to see Wyn make some serious in-roads.

After the release in August 2023, Megan has been booked for numerous tastemaker metropolitan festivals dotted around the country including Twisterella and Beyond The Music, as well as, choice support slots with the like of Swim Deep and Andrew Cushin.

At radio, Megan has already had playlist support from Radio X alongside a live session with John Kennedy. She was also booked to do do a live session with BBC introducing Manchester last minute, whilst gaining repeat support at BBC Radio London and BBC Radio Merseyside.

Wyn was also Huw Stephens’ Artist of The Week on BBC Radio Wales and added to the station’s playlist.

Now, Megan returns with hugely impressive new cut, ‘Familiar Faces’. Taking cues from contemporaries such like Sam Fender, Olivia Rodrigo, and many more, the young artist sounds like the shackles are finally off.

Different to her previous dreamlike release, the track is fast-paced, seething and has a point to make. There’s a sense of real exacerbation in lines like: “They only throw stones to leave a scar”

What makes it different to most records though, is the way in which Megan has drawn upon her influences new and old. Her love of Amazon’s blockbuster series, The Six, almost oozes out of your speakers as her PJ Harvey-esque croon delivers ear worm after ear worm.

Rare that an artist is effortlessly cool whilst calling upon pop sensibilities relentlessly. Wistful but assured in equal measure, it sounds exactly like a teenager figuring themselves out.

Speaking about the song, Megan said: “Familiar Faces was written at the start of summer after breaking off a situationship with someone who let jealousy and other people come between us. It’s a bittersweet song about the love you have for this person but the angst and anger that comes with jealousy ruining something that could have been great.”

‘Familiar Faces’, was written with and produced by Alex Quinn (The Royston Club, Lottery Winners, Michael Aldag) over the course of an extensive period of writing in Summer 2022.

And most importantly, play the festivals she probably would have attended anyway.

Megan Wyn Releases New Single ‘You Don’t Get It’

Following on from the absolutely brilliant ‘Polaroid’ and ‘Better Of You’ Megan Wyn has decided to go in a different direction, now with a band behind her and removing both previous tracks from streaming she has released a fantastic ‘debut’ single with a more mature sound titled ‘You Don’t Get It’.

The Welsh singer songwriter from Anglesey has been on the festival / tour scene since she was 16 years old. Megan describes this track as “her coming of age” song.

Megan Says:
When I was 16, I moved from a very small town on Anglesey to Manchester, which is, of course, a much bigger city. With starting such a different chapter in my life, I experienced a lot of overwhelming feelings that I didn’t quite understand or expect to feel, which is where I got the line, ‘You don’t get it cause you never have.’ This song is me explaining to myself that it’s okay to feel those feelings. Although I had an overwhelming feeling of homesickness, I knew that this was the right step in order for me to grow as a person. This song is all about that journey.”

The indie rock chick has a phenomenal voice. With her undeniable talent and at such a young age, there’s no surprise that her fan base is growing quickly.

‘You Don’t Get It’, sounds like a cut from the Ayoade classic, Submarine. It is a quintessentially British sounding record full of hope and desperation in equal measure.

What makes it different to most records in this area of music though, is the way in which Megan has drawn upon her influences new and old.

She has previously been championed by the likes of  BBC London’s Gary Crowleyand BBC Wales’s Adam Thomas Walton. Megan also featured in CLASHmagazine as part of The Great Escape Online Festival as well as appearing at the  Isle Of Wight Festival, on the This Feeling stage, and the iconic River Stage.

With another single pencilled for release before the year is out and a handful of festivals and shows to announce for the end of 2023 and early 2024, Megan is putting a line in the sand and stepping directly into the spotlight an artist like herself deserves.

You can catch her live in the UK at the following shows

09.09.2023 – Tha Knows Festival – Sheffield

Ren Releases New Single ‘Murderer’

The sensational rising talent, Ren from Dwyran on Anglesey, North Wales is the gift that keeps on giving.
A bedrock of talent, the Isle of Anglesey is also home to the likes of Holy Coves, Megan Wyn and Caine Jones-Williams.

In 2022, Ren released “Hi Ren”. The video went viral and appeared in both the United Kingdom and Worldwide Trending Music Video Charts on YouTube, and had 6.8 million views in two months.
Ren has spent many years battling a serious illness that left him bed ridden for upto 23 hours a day, despite this he has made countless amazing songs, and has also been raising awareness of mental health issues and most recently raised a significant amount of funds for the RNLI, a charity close to his heart after the loss of a close friend. Ren has been a member of Brighton based busking bands Trick The Fox and The Big Push.

Following on from his beautifully emotive single ‘Suicide’ he now graces us with ‘Murderer’.
Ren draws you in with his groovy beats and genius lyrics. You can’t help but listen to every single fascinating word from beginning to end. He’s a true storyteller/poet/bard!

Somehow genreless he keeps his fans on their toes with each release. A truly exciting, unique talent. He is able to connect to his fans through his raw truths and layered songs. Ren is a force to be reckoned with and it’s exciting to hear each release.

‘Murderer’ is out now on all streaming platforms.

Megan Wyn ‘Jealousy’ Single

Anglesey’s very own Megan Wyn has just released her third single ‘Jealousy’ and it really is phenomenal. Following on from the success of her first two brilliant singles ‘Polaroid’ and ‘Better of You’ Megan has definitely carried on the momentum and shown another new side to her song writing abilities, she just keeps getting better and better.
I hear quality tones in her already mature voice similar to Stevie Nicks and PJ Harvey but she still keeps her own originality and sounds current. If these three singles are anything to go by then Megan is already a very consistent song writer at such a young age, the possibilities are endless. I see a very bright future ahead for the Welsh singer songwriter.

Megan has been ripping up the circuit as support for so many bands and artists over the last couple of years including The Skinner Brothers, John Power, (Cast, The Las) Andrew Cushin the list goes on and on. She’s also been appearing at numerous well established festivals all over the UK with massive support from radio and the BBC playlisting her on the BBC Radio Wales A-list
Im looking forward to seeing Megan with a full live band headlining her own shows in the future, its only a matter of time! Definitely a star in the making.
