The Stray Pursuit Release New Single ‘Let It Be Known’

The Stray Pursuit is a young Swansea-based alternative rock band. Taking their musical influence from bands such as Stereophonics, Kasabian, and The Enemy.
Their eclectic individual music taste makes each song distinctively their own; with guitar-heavy riffs and powerful, catchy vocals.

The four-piece consists of the lead singer, Aaron Morgan; lead guitarist, Dylan Evans; bassist, Fred Wilkinson; drummer, Ben Lewis, and they had their first gig in November 2018.

They sold out the famous Swansea music venue Sin City in March 2019 with their debut single release show of “Out of This World”. Since then, they have released 3 more singles and have featured on This Feeling’s ‘Big in 2020’, playing gigs as far as The Dublin Castle, Camden.

The band started as Aaron & Fred both got on the wrong bus from college and ended up an hour away from home. After getting chatting the pair discovered they were in rival local bands.  But when Fred invited Aaron over for a jam, they soon realised they worked very well together. Aaron invited Dylan, who was in his previous band, and Dylan brought Nicky. Ben joined the band in April 2023, as the founding drummer Nicky Bevan, sadly lost his life (due to mental health problems) in December 2022.

As a result of the pandemic, and Fred finishing university, the boys took a hiatus until June 2022. Since then, The Stray Pursuit have been in the practice room working relentlessly to perfect new tracks and tighten up their enthralling live performances.

The boys have been in the studio recording their first EP at Longwave Studios with Romesh Dodangoda in Cardiff. They plan to release their debut EP by December 2023. They are also in the process of booking a tour, so stay tuned for the coming months!

The song is about someone struggling with insecurities and self-consciousness and trying to overcome them. Hence the lyric “My fear, all over my skin”. I wrote the song in the summer of 2021 on a 4 stringed acoustic guitar. – Quote from Dylan (Lead Guitarist).

 In their own words:
Our energetic live performances and crowd interaction as well as heavy guitar riffs that speak to you like lyrics, are what we attribute to our consistent sell-out shows of local music venues.

Our founding drummer passed away in December 2022, aged 20. We have always tried to write songs and lyrics from the heart, but now it has a real purpose. It has given a deeper and more poignant perspective to our song writing.

 For fans of:

Kasabian, Catfish and The Bottlemen, The Enemy, Himalayas, Green Day.

Upcoming live dates:

30th June – The Bunkhouse, Swansea. Hometown headline show! (With Stickman and The Rogues)

September 1st – Via Fossa, Nottingham (with The Fiends)

Celestial North Releases New Single ‘Otherworld’

Celestial North reveals her new single ‘Otherworld‘. This life affirming and glorious dreamscape is the lead single and title track from her forthcoming debut album ‘Otherworld’– Out on the 7th of July 2023.

Scottish, Lake District-based artist, Celestial North announces the release of her wonderful debut album Otherworld. Celestial North beckons you into her shimmering and ethereal world of spiralling wyrd-pop – a cosmic detour into a land of impossibility and beauty, bathed in folklore.

The lead single and title track Otherworld – is a sublime rush of celestial pop, enveloping tribal rhythms and twinkling instrumentals. Haunting mantras and hymn-like harmonies are bathed in the dawn light, anchored by a repeated refrain “don’t look back and you’ll never feel broken” that’s at once comforting and transportative. Celestial North explains that ‘Otherworld’ is “A rabble-rousing pick-me-up on days when life feels a bit much, a reminder that it will all be ok and that we are never truly alone in this world. Providing the beat and movement of life for us all to shake it off together.”

Deeply influenced by her natural surroundings and wild Scottish upbringing, the album was co-recorded and produced with Woody (Sea Power) in the Lake District, creating a stunning tapestry of work that adds a human heart and touch to elements of dream pop, electro-pop, folktronica, gaze, and techno, offering an escape to new realms, adventurous and futuristic, yet with its roots in ancient civilisations of the past. Weaving her self-proclaimed ‘Pagan euphoria’ across eleven startling songs, Otherworld is another marvelous step forward in her artistry and is the product of years of honing and refining her songwriting and sound.

Premiered by Chris Hawkins on BBC 6 Music, the single Otherworld follows the success of ‘When The Gods Dance’ which also received airplay from the BBC, Amazing Radio, and various BBC Introducing shows – garnering praise from the likes of Roddy Hart at BBC Radio Scotland, Jim Gellatly of Amazing Radio, and Tom Salmon of BBC Introducing. The gorgeous follow-up ‘The Nature of Light’ received a similar response on radio and online and was featured in Under The Radar and Snack Magazine. The instrumental lushness of ‘Yarrow’ completed a trilogy of releases in 2022.

‘Stunning. An uplifting, beautiful dreamscape to Utopia and might be the best music you’ll hear this week” Chris Hawkins , BBC Radio 6 Music‘This dreamy, effervescent synth-pop from Edinburgh’s Celestial North at once evokes a witchy, wiccan naturalism and a music festival dance tent.’ – Snack Magazine.

‘‘Majestic – full of hypnotic rhythms…’ – Roddy Hart, BBC Radio Scotland.‘Luscious, ethereal…’ –  Under The Radar.

‘Viking Dreamfolk to dance and soar to…’ – Higher Plain Music.

Burning Ferns Release New Album ‘World Of The Wars’

Five years on from their acclaimed second album Public MonoNewport’s Burning Ferns have returned with a new LP World Of The Wars. And my oh my, how things have changed.

World Of The Wars is the sound of a band grappling with the world going to hell, and making sense of it through the medium of pristine guitar pop.

Initially recorded remotely in the face of Covid lockdown and completed at their Le Mons studio, Newport in 2021/22, it is an album of relentless musicality and guile. Songwriter Tony Gray displays unerring quality control to deliver 12 startling new songs that push on from the power pop of previous releases to more widescreen musical aspirations.

Accompanied by established Ferns, Nathan Abraham (lead guitar/vocal), Brychan Todd(bass/keyboards) and Dave Corten (rhythm guitar/vocal), the album sees a personnel change on drums. The band say hello to Newport’s assimilated New Yorker, Erik Stams (Darling Buds, Jon Langford & The Men of Gwent).

The songs are a wall-to-wall technicolour delight, embracing a range of styles including glam rock, pure pop and 70s psychedelia. It is a lyrical masterclass too; wrestling with a wider range of themes from the mundane to the existential. Covid rears its ugly head on Danger In The Western Hemisphere and Tell Me Something I Don’t Know, while there is restlessness too (Frustration/ ‘Til Tomorrow). Add to that a simple love song, a song about the #MeToo movement seen through the prism of primates, and a polemic on disaster capitalism, and you have the makings of an album for our times.

In the end, it is enough to bring you to tears, as the album ends with guitar-pop masterclass The Town Crier, chosen as the lead single for this release.

World Of The Wars has been mixed by Charlie Francis (REM/High Llamas/Robyn Hitchcock), with artwork provided by Newport’s greatest cult hero, Jon Langford.

Stellar Echoes Release New Single ‘Break Of Day’

Hailing from Caerphilly, alternative indie rock band Stellar Echoes return with their latest single ‘Break of Day’ after spending most of the last year recording their debut album set for release in the summer of 2023.

Break of Day was written on New Years Day, most likely with a hang over. Lyrics never feel like a conscious thing when writing, but with the chorus pleading to “Let the night fade, let me feel the break of day” there’s a clear hope of new beginnings and longing for new horizons throughout the song.

Spiral City Release New Single ‘Rise’

SPIRAL CITY are the coventry based four piece alt indie rock band consisting of Louie Forde on Lead Vocals/Rhythm Guitar, Jack Waterfield on Lead Guitar/Backing Vocals, Tom White on Bass/Backing Vocals and Harvey James on Drums/ Percussion/Backing Vocals.

Formed in late 2022 and with two previous single releases under their belt, ‘Divide’ (30 September 22) and ‘You and I’ (20 December 2022) the band have already been tipped as “Ones to watch” by BBC Introducing, after number radio plays on  BBC C&W and many other independent radio stations, as well as selling out their own headline gigs at the likes of The Tin Music & Arts.

‘Rise’ is a powerful offering from the band. The intro with its strumming guitar riffs and paired back drums allowing the vocals to burst forth with a clear precision giving the listener a hint of what’s to be unleashed as the track builds up in tempo and pace into a positive crescendo as the chorus hook kicks in. There’s a moment of somewhat quiet reflection around the midway section before the track races off again exiting on a positive, exhilarating high. We can really see how the accompanying video to this track works so well.

The band have said of the track and video:

“The music video that accompanies the single features an up and coming female boxer and the idea behind it is that she is fighting her “demons” and her emotions and will have to defeat them before she can defeat her opponents in the ring. The song is inspired by life itself and the determination, bravery, confidence and resilience it ultimately takes to traverse its muddy waters knowing that none of us get out alive.”

‘Rise’ was collaboratively written by the band and was recorded at 300 Acre Studios in Coleshill, Birmingham by Matt Cotterill.

Ahead of the release of  ‘Rise’ it has been picked up by Twitch streamer and new music advocate Tim Senna who has agreed to review the single and give the single its first play on his twitch live stream.
