Welcome to the world of Messy Eater… debut single ‘Feels Good’ out now on Nutritious Sounds.
Messy Eater is the new music and illustration project from Pete Bott (previously of Heads We Dance (supported by The Guardian, NME) and of dance act Arkley – “massive” (BBC introducing), “immaculate” (Notion)).
Growing up on a diet of mixtape culture and genre-agnostic eclecticism, Messy Eater lives in a world of “anything goes” melodic songwriting and kaleidoscopic sampledelica. Drawing comparisons with Gorillaz, Beck, Talking Heads and The Avalanches, Messy Eater combines the flavours of wry lyrical observations on modern life with irresistible hooks and highly danceable rhythms.
A clapped-out drum machine and analogue synths introduce ‘Feels Good’ before it bursts into life with world-weary vocals playing counterpoint to the dopamine hit music. Amidst swirling vocal samples and an 808 loop, the lyric in the bridge captures the mood: “I feel so good as the weight it falls from my mind / all the downbeats and upbeats, teardrops and heartbeats – finally I’m alive”.
‘Feels Good’ is the first track from Messy Eater’s forthcoming debut EP ‘Starters’.
