Five piece Glasgow based Indie rock outfit Balado were formed in late summer 2021 and consists of Jamie Finnigan on lead vocals, Peter Houston on Guitar, Danny Bonner on Lead Guitar, Connor Mcgrain on Bass and Nathan Coats on drums.
It’s fair to say that BALADO are a band that means business! They performed their first ever gig only months after forming and without any actual single releases under their belt and since then (despite the pandemic), have gone on to release three outstanding singles in their first year in the the form of ‘The Buffalo’ in January 2022, ‘Wasting Away’ the following month and ‘Black Shadow’ in the October. All three singles have done massively well in terms of streams and were also received to much critical acclaim. ‘The Buffalo’ proved particularly popular in the United States where it garnered a lot of attention for the band.
Despite being a relatively new band, BALADO have also been busy and in demand on the live scene, having played several sold out shows, headlined gigs the famous King Tuts and 13th Note in Glasgow and supported indie bench markers such as The K’s, The Gulps, The Heavy North and Kula Shaker in front of crowds of up to 1,600 people!
The band are now back with their latest offering and the first of 2023 with the blistering single release of ‘Paper Airplanes’
From the opening riff you know this is going to be an absolute banger. With its stomping pace and rhythm sections interspersed with classic indie-eque vocals that roll and intertwine with the melody and punchy riffs. The chorus hook explodes and takes over and fills your ears with a crescendo of sound. It’s got energy, drive and is a guitar fuelled display of no holds barred good old fashioned rock n roll tune. Packed full of scintillating riffs, that tease and torment throughout, building up to a climactic blistering lead solo that ascends and descends and leaves you wanting more. This will go down amazing when performing live!
Indeed the band have said of the track: “paper airplanes flying past your head, the teacher said i was nothing but a ned” is a great line in the song to sum it up, it’s about growing up, being a little shit and enjoying life, it brings to light what we did for fun growing up compared to what kids do now growing up.”
‘Paper Airplanes’ ‘is being released along with the bonus b-side single of ‘Depths Of Despair’. Both tracks were recorded in Mark Morrow’s studio B with Ewan Simpson and were Mixed and Mastered by Mark Morrow.
BALADO certainly show no signs of slowing down anytime soon with more single releases being planned and with dates in the diary already quickly filling up, this is a band that you most definitely want on your radar!
