Is it even possible for a band to keep getting better with each release? For The Heavy North it is! If these two singles are anything to go by then we’re in for a treat. A sign of exciting things to come.
Six-piece rock band The Heavy North have announce their next single ‘Round Again’ is out now ahead of the band’s second album ‘Delta Shakedown’ expected later this year.
‘Round Again’ marks the second single from The Heavy North’s upcoming album following the release of ‘Where Are You Now?’ back in March which was featured on BBC Radio 2’s The Rock Show with legendary Johnnie Walker as well as BBC Introducing and Radio X.
Discussing the meaning behind the new single ‘Round Again’ The Heavy North frontman Kenny Stuart said “It’s a song about being complacent with day-to-day routines whilst longing for a wilder, more carefree time”.
“Round Again is also a response to our last single ‘Where Are You Now?’ which was about wondering what people from our past are up to now, but with this time we’re reflecting on our own circumstances and situations”.
The band have just played their first overseas show before returning to the UK to play the band’s first major festival show at Kendal Calling Festival on Saturday 29th July.
Earlier this year the band also announced their biggest headline show to date at Liverpool’s Camp and Furnace on Friday 1st December 2023. The huge hometown show follows The Heavy North’s sold out 500-capacity Arts Club show last year where the band performed their debut album Electric Soul Machine from start to finish, accompanied by a 12-piece band featuring a string quartet, a brass section and backing vocalists.
The Heavy North’s brand new single ‘Round Again’ is available on all download and streaming platforms now.
Delta Shakedown is available to pre-order now on 12” gatefold vinyl (blue or red colour disc) exclusively from Wax and Beans Records in Bury.
Carrying glowing endorsements and reviews from Dave Ling (Classic Rock) – “Immensely promising quartet playing a confident, summery, sometimes funk-fuelled style that will leave you grinning from ear to ear” and Rob Evans (Powerplay Rock & Metal) – “The best independent album I’ve heard this year”, This House We Built are already on rock solid foundations on which to build a successful career in the music scene.
The real bricks and mortar of the band are a heady mix of bands from England’s Scarborough Strip (think Sunset Strip but with less debauchery, more chips and an untapped resource of talent since five Little Angels flew big in 88’).
Players Scott Wardell (vocals guitar), Andy Jackson (guitars vocals), Oz Ward (drums vocals) and Wayne Dowkes White (bass) finally came together just prior to the world shutting down in 2020.
Rather than dwell on not being able to bring their collective talents to the stage, they started the socially distanced writing sessions that bought the plot for the house they were about to build. Each man brought a different musical path to the band, and you can hear them all as the album unfolds. Eclectic influences ranging from classic rock, funk, emo, nu-metal and melodic rock are mixed perfectly across the ten songs and brick by harmony laden brick they build a unique sound that transcends all the aforementioned genres.
The house is a veritable musical mansion and when you add in stellar song writing that is equally at home penning stadium anthems as they are challenging difficult life situations such as depression, alcoholism, and Alzheimer’s you start to realise ‘This House We Built’ are not simply here to rent, they are a long-term musical mortgage investment.
The band are keeping very busy and have several festivals planned up and down the country this year, they are also halfway through writing their second album.
They are also set to release their new Craft Beer in May titled ‘This Beer We Built’ this will also be making an appearance at festivals up and down the country, the idea with this is to help fund their second album, the more folks drink the more recording time we get! everyone’s a winner 😉
Of the song: This is a song that probably took us the longest to get over the line musically, it was written in the summer of 2021. Lyrically it’s a song I wrote about that feeling you get when you meet someone and you feel that chemistry, that vibe. That Zing, you can’t put your finger on it, but you lock eyes, you feel the energy and that chemistry, the butterflies, a rumble in the under carriage;-) Scott.
For fans of:

In their own words:
We’ve all been on the scene some years with other bands, and we’ve come out of the blue with this band but have been waiting all our lives for this moment in time. Our music comes from many musical tastes, we have an underlying Classic Rock vibe but as you’ll hear there’s a modern edge to our sound which we think makes us a little different to what’s happening now – Scott.

Liverpool blues rock band The Heavy North return with a brand new single and music video for ‘Where Are You Now.’ The single is a high energy rock anthem with brilliant guitar riffs and is full of serious attitude and swagger. The lyrics are relatable as the song is about people who have come and gone in your life and wondering what they are doing now, are they still the same person or has life changed them. This song shows The Heavy North are at the top of their game with a new album in the works and a huge hometown gig at the end of the year. 2023 is already looking great for The Heavy North.
Discussing the meaning behind the new single, The Heavy North frontman Kenny Stuart said “Where Are You Now? is about remembering people who come and go in your life, and wondering whether they’re still the same person they once were and thinking about what they’re up to”.
“The lyrics explore whether those people we used to know are still the same as how we remembered them, or have their circumstances or situations changed for better or worse”.
‘Where Are You Now?’ marks the first glimpse of new music from Liverpool six-piece The Heavy North since the release of their critically-acclaimed debut album Electric Soul Machine on Record Store Day in April 2022.
Following a successful year which saw the band embark on their first 10-date UK headline tour as well as performing alongside fellow Merseyside artists The Zutons, Cast, The Boo Radleys and Red Rum Club, The Heavy North ended a landmark year with a with a sold out show at the Arts Club Theatre in Liverpool.
The band’s debut album Electric Soul Machine was heavily featured in some of 2022’s end-of-year round-ups (“the perfect encapsulation of this band’s musical talents” – Northern Chorus’s Top 10 Albums of 2022) as well as being the subject of a Tim’s Twitter Listening Party with Tim Burgess (The Charlatans) last year.
To coincide with the release of new music and the much-anticipated second album later this year, The Heavy North have announced a handful of headline shows in May which will see the blues-rock six-piece return to Scotland to headline Glasgow’s Audio (19th) followed by new Sheffield venue Network (20th), The Live Rooms in Chester (25th) and the legendary Water Rats in Kings Cross, London (26th).
The Heavy North have also announced their biggest hometown headline show to date at Liverpool’s Camp and Furnace on Friday 1st December 2023.
The huge Liverpool show follows The Heavy North’s sold out 500-capacity Arts Club show last year where the band performed their debut album Electric Soul Machine from start to finish, accompanied by a 12-piece band featuring strings, a brass section and backing vocalists.
Speaking about the band’s end-of-year show, Kenny said “We’re made up to reveal our next big Liverpool show at the Camp and Furnace courtesy of our friends at EVOL, and we’re looking forward to performing a set of brand new tracks taken from our upcoming second album.
“After the success of our Arts Club show last year, we’ll also be inviting some guest musicians to perform with us again, so we look forward to seeing everyone in December for a special night in an incredible venue”
Tickets for this unmissable hometown headline show are available from 10am on Friday 24th February 2023.

South Wales four piece The Now are proud to release a brand new single ‘Devil Inside Me.’
The infectious ‘Devil Inside Me’ is a stadium-ready anthem, that will grip the listener from the very first hearing and simply refuse to let go.
“From the big sounding guitars to the delayed vocals in the chorus, you just don’t know what’s going to happen next, the sounds we used really fit the story well.”- exclaim the Now.
Recorded at Real World Studios and produced by Oli Jacobs, who has previously worked with The 1975, the Devil Inside Me tells about “your typical lad who likes to go out partying in his local town and what he gets up to…. Not knowing when to call it a night.” Stevie Van Zandt is already set to play the Devil Inside Me on his Underground Garage show.
in 2021, the band’s single, ‘Dr Jones’ managed to start their rise to success with it featuring on BBC Radio 2 – The Rock Show with Johnnie Walker and also numerous plays on Planet Rock with Wyatt featuring the track on his show “The New Rock Show”. Not long after the release of Friendly Fire, they were contacted by BBC Introducing Wales presenter “Adam Walton” to air ‘Friendly Fire’ on the station.
The first single, ‘Holy’ from the band’s debut EP in 2022 gained a huge amount of airplay around the globe. Apart from plays on BBC and numerous independent stations in the UK, it was “The Coolest Song in the World” for a week on Little Steven’s Underground Garage on Sirius XM across North America. The new EP from Danish indie rockers Mansfield takes listeners on a musical journey through conflicting emotions and a longing for authenticity.
On February 3rd, Copenhagen-based rock band Mansfield will release the EP ‘Come Rain or Shine’ as a follow-up to their critically acclaimed debut album ‘Star-Crossed Lovers’ from 2020. With ‘Come Rain or Shine,’ Mansfield gives a clear nod to British indie rock tradition while adding a personal and contemporary touch. The four tracks reveal a new experimental approach to sound and musical arrangements, as shown on the singles ‘Chasing after You’ and ‘The Sky’s in Love with You’ released in the autumn of 2022. Both singles have gained airplay on Danish National Radio and across the world, especially in the UK, Canada, USA and Australia. The songs on ‘Come Rain or Shine’ were written during the pandemic and in its aftermath. Lead singer and songwriter Christian Stage says about the process, “During that point in time, I felt an urge to deal with all the frustration and conflicting emotions in my songwriting. Rather than addressing specific situations, I chose in my lyrics to express thoughts and feelings on a more universal and metaphorical level. I think this will make the songs resonate with people.”
The lead track of the EP, the mellow and captivating ‘The Nature of a Troubled Mind’, describes frustration and longing for love and acceptance. With its compelling guitar riffs and poetic lyrics, ‘The Nature of a Troubled Mind’ speaks directly to the listener, as the lead vocal soars above the instruments. The music video illustrates the themes of loneliness and longing by using symbolism and close-up shots of the band.
‘Come Rain or Shine’ turns a new chapter for Mansfieldsince the release of ‘Star-Crossed Lovers’ in 2020. The latter became a turning point for the band and received 4-and 5-star reviews in Danish and international music press.
‘Star-Crossed Lovers’ was awarded Album of the Week on Danish National Radio earning the band consecutive airplay ever since. Radio hosts and music critics have compared Mansfield to artists such as The Beatles, Oasis and The Kinks because of their sound and anthemic songwriting.
Mansfield’s recent performances at The Cavern Club, Liverpool have marked their entry on the international music scene. In February, Mansfield will support British rock band All The Young on part of their European tour, as they have been handpicked by All The Young’s lead singer Ryan Dooley. In the past, All The Young have toured with the likes of Morrissey, Kaiser Chiefs and The 1975.
‘Come Rain or Shine’ was recorded, mixed and mastered at Black Tornado Studio in Copenhagen by producer Morten Bue (Mew, Iceage, Tindersticks, Kashmir). The EP will be available on all streaming platforms on February 3, via record label DME
Previously playing on the circuit in touring bands, Luke Williams has now gone solo, a project born of the pandemic. Hailing from Hampshire, Shadow Bones’ fantastic solo project of singer songwriter Luke Williams, has had a busy couple of years in the build up and release of his debut album ‘In Another Life’, which has gained a lot of attention from the likes of BBC Introducing and CLASH Magazine.
This beautifully written album is one that tells of Lukes demons and vulnerabilities through his sweet lyrics full of emotion. All the songs were written about a period of time in Luke’s early stages of alcohol recovery, which he talks about as being in another life. His vocals are honest and raw, with songs like ‘Love Is A Reason’ that are deep and meaningful to the upbeat and dynamic ‘Over and Out’. This album is full of heart.
Of the album Luke says “Writing songs in lockdown was cathartic, a means of therapy. It transported me back to a dark period of time I had left behind when I was battling sobriety, in the early years of recovery. Being in lockdown gave me that time to reflect on life, what’s been, appreciate what you do have and what you don’t. I never thought a bag of pasta would mean so much to me”.
A must for all Indie/Americana Blues Rock fans, look out for upcoming gigs in 2023!
If you like Tom Petty, Ray Lamontagne or Ryan Adams then you will love Shadow Bones, check out his video below.
The Heavy North have been creating quite a stir inside and outside of their native Liverpool, packing in crowds, selling out venues such as the legendary Cavern Club and gaining critical acclaim since their first single release in 2018. Its safe to say that quite a few people have been waiting for this album.
This isn’t reinventing the wheel, lets get that out of the way. The Heavy North’s brand of blues rock is as familiar as it is welcoming, and by the time the wah wah trumpet kicks in on album opener “The Genie”, you’ll have kicked off your shoes and be well and truly at home.
This album is packed to the brim with the kind of upbeat refrains and harmonies that’ll have you dancing along (in your chair if you must) from start to finish. “Darkness in Your Eyes” comes along with an “Electric Worry” era Clutch vibe and the intro to “No Good” feels like a Black Keys came close to having a good time.
The common theme here is one of good music, done well. Like I said, you won’t find anything to surprise you here, but when something drives as well as this, do you need a new wheel anyway? From swirling organs, thick harmonies, blazing solos (“She Gets Me Higher”), to the Joe Cocker esque finale, “As Long as You’re Here with Me”, this album does everything it does, perfectly.
