The Silver Lines Release New Single ‘Bound’

The Silver Lines are the fantastic Birmingham based alt indie rock band made up of brothers Dan and Joe Ravenscroft on lead Vocals and Guitar respectively, George Vivian on Bass and  Kindo on Drums.

The Silver Lines were first formed in 2018 by the two brothers who said they were “uninspired by the current landscape of guitar music” and as such, decided that they were going to take matters into their own hands and make music of their own.

Later being joined by George on Bass and Kindo on drums, the band have gone on to release a string of successful releases being  ‘Roamer’ in 2018, ‘Parliament’ and ‘Fallen Idol’ in 2019, ‘Breathe’ and ‘Skin’ in 2020, ‘Alive’ and ‘Delivery’ in 2021 and ‘Love Made’, ‘The Big O’ ‘Hotel Room’ and the ‘SLEAZE’ (EP)  in 2022 and  ‘Blow Dry’  ‘Castaway’ and ‘Bound’ in 2023 . The band have consistently sold out hometown gigs as well as play support slots with the likes Buzzcocks and established U.K. punk band Ist Ist. They have also played extensive gigs and festivals in both the UK, France and USA and have had radio plays on the likes of BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 6 Music, Radio X, XS Manchester and Amazing Radio.

Fast forward to 2023 and being “repulsed by the notion of being just another ‘all white male indie’ band that sings of teenage love or rants empty pseudo prophetic quotes”, The Silver Lines set out to release new music that defies the genre and the peers within it. The product is a very self aware form of songwriting that covers many taboo topics from toxic masculinity, learnt behaviours from past generations, and explores personal experiences that connect with the listener on a much deeper level.

2023 has been a year which has seen The Silver Lines secure themselves as established artists on the underground punk / indie circuit in the U.K. They released two singles being ‘Blow Dry’ and ‘Bound’ both of which have been played on BBC Radio 6 Music, Radio X, XS Manchester, Amazing Radio and championed by BBC Introducing West Midlands and Hereford & Worcester. They also did a live BBC session showcasing their sound.

At the start of the year they did a 12 date UK tour (all 100 -150 cap venues) with Hope & Anchor, London, Audio, Glasgow, Bristol, Cavern, Exeter, Smokehouse, and Ipswich all selling out. This was then finished with a US tour (NYC and LA) with the second date of the tour Piano’s, NYC selling out. They also drew a good crowd at The Paramount, Los Angeles where they headlined both. Notable festivals they’ve played include Focus Wales, Stockton Calling, MosFest, Your City, The Alternative Escape and playing the BBC Introducing stage at LakeFest

After being spotted at Pianos in New York by the owner of Focus WalesThe Silver Lines were invited to play Focus Wales, from there they were spotted by Jean-Louis Broussard and invited to play his festival Trans Musicales, France which attracts over 62,000.00 music fans. Following this they are now working closely with the French booking agent Twin Vertigo who are keen to book some European dates in April 2024. Also after catching the Focus Wales set, Dev Sherlock, senior programmer at SXSW invited the boys to play SXSW which is where they are headed in January 2024 which will be attended by 300,000 people.

In August The Silver Lines  recorded a new EP which is to be released early next year.  In 2024, aside from going to SXSW and potentially extending their stay in the states to do some more dates, the band will also be touring in Europe and  aim to book an Independent Venue Week tour, along with releasing new singles from their upcoming EP.

Annie Hardy Releases New EP ‘Cross Bearer’

Annie Hardy is the outspoken, boundary pushing visionary and lead vocalist from renowned and widely revered grunge/punk band Giant Drag with whom she attained massive success.

The band released their first EP ‘Lemona’ in 2005 on UK tastemaker label ‘Wichita Records’ which led to a record deal with ‘Kickball/Interscope’ who later went on to release ‘Hearts and Unicorns’ for the band, to much critical acclaim from the likes of NMEPitchfork and The Guardian to name but a few.

Annie and Giant Drag then took a break from the limelight before deciding to make a comeback in 2013 and self-release ‘Waking Up Is Hard to Do’ with a vinyl release by Canadian DIY label ‘Yeah! Right Records’.

Annie later released her first solo LP ‘RULES’ (Full Psycho/Yeah! Right Records) which was recorded and produced by Joe Cardamone. The record boasts an array of musical guests including DJ Bonebrake (the drummer of Los Angeles historic punk band X),  Don Bolles (The Germs), Stephen McBean (Black Mountain, Pink Mountaintops) and Petra Hayden (That Dog) to name just a few.

Annie Hardy is now back with her second solo EP offering of the ‘Cross Bearer’ EP. Cross Bearer contains 5 previously unreleased tracks by the artist being

1) Agency

2) IDK2

3) Haunted

4) IDK4

5) Ghost

Each track in turn takes the listener on a sonic, psychedelic journey of self awareness and discovery. There’s an eloquent mix of a child-like innocence coupled with an extreme mature wisdom that comes from having lived a life with many twists and turns, a life that has known both pure joy and crushing heartbreak.

It’s a genre defying, eclectic mix of musicianship and songwriting unlike no other. Annie Hardy has a style all of her very own; she is a leader where others can only follow in her wake.

It’s probably unsurprising that Annie Hardy is such a groundbreaking artist given that her influences come entirely from within herself without the unusual outside influences playing a part.  At her own admission Annie hates technology and what it has done to humanity and says that she hasn’t watched TV or a movie for 12 years now.

The first music video to be released in conjunction with the Cross Bearer EP is the video to accompany the track ‘Haunted’.

‘Haunted’ lives up to its name both musically and visually. The soundtrack has a distorted tinkling circus melody throughout adding to the ethereal eeriness of it all. The video is like a psychedelic smorgasbord shifting dramatically between elements of past, present and future; between dreams and reality featuring Annie herself as the one being glimpsed here and there as a  ghost-like presence.

Annie has said of the new EP – “All songs were channeled in from another dimension, simultaneously written/recorded in one take without previous knowledge or existence in this realm.”

The NSO Release New Single ‘Do Ya’

The N.S.O. are a four piece Yorkshire band consisting of Josh Tallis on Vocals and Rhythm Guitar,  Reece Howe on Vocals and Lead Guitar, Jordan Watkin on Percussions and  William Simister on Bass Guitar.

The band pride themselves on mixing various influences and genres into their work resulting in a sound that is enticingly fresh and exciting, setting them apart from their counterparts. They combine dark and gritty vocals with light hearted melodies making for a truly exhilarating listening experience.

The N.S.O. formed in 2022 and they released their debut single in the November of the same year; ‘Hurts Instead’. This was followed up in spring 2023 with ‘Up and Down’.

The band’s somewhat unusual name ‘The N.S.O’, we are told doesn’t actually stand for anything and came about when they performed at  their debut (sold out)  gig when they didn’t actually have a band name at all. The story goes that they saw the letters N.S.O. written on the wall of the venue and for lack of a better name, went with that! The band feel that as things have unfolded however,  it makes sense that the name has no direct meaning.. “it means what you want it to mean, just like the music”.

The band have spent their time wisely perfecting their music both in the studio and by gigging extensively including festivals such as Tramlines, Bunkerfest (Supporting Mark Morris), Doncaster Summer Of Love (Supporting Neville Staples), Be Reyt and Barnsley Live festivals and performing a series of gigs with new music taste makers This Feeling selling out their own headline gig at The Philadelphia in Sheffield and gigging with other up and coming acts such as Rosellas and Mimosa.

Having taken their time and not simply rushed out another release, the band have honed and perfected their art and are now ready to unveil to the world their brand new single release of ‘Do Ya’

‘Do Ya’ with its strumming and thrashing guitars and pounding, crashing drum rhythms is perfectly offset with the almost dark and brooding vocals that positively open up in the chorus hook lines with a rousing upbeat melody. Its pure indie rock grittiness personified to perfection!

The band have said of the track:

“‘Do Ya’ is about asking questions in life really; easy questions, hard questions, and questions you already know the answers to, really. It’s funny, as the verses I’d had for a while, but I never found a place for them. It wasn’t until I revisited an old song Reece had written that I found the chorus. The chorus echoes a sentiment most listeners will understand when your mood is completely opposite to someone else’s, so much so that it’s almost an annoyance, as you can’t grasp how they’re okay with everything and you’re not. From there, the song fell into place as Josh and Reece worked together on the rest of the structure, and the band finalised the music.”

‘Do Ya’ was written by Josh Tallis and Reece Howe. It was recorded at The Nave Studio  in Pudsey, Leeds and was produced By Tom Orrell.

Upcoming Gigs

Yellow Arch Studios – Sheffield – 15.12.23

Albion Release New EP ‘The Rooms Where Songs Are Made’

Albion are the London based six-piece band composed of members Ben on Lead Vocals, Guitar and Harmonica, Bidz on Vocals and Lead Guitar, Hunter on Bass, Jack on Drums, Jake on Vocals and Guitar and Sophie on Keys.

With influences ranging from The Beatles to Red Hot Chilli Peppers, from The Rolling Stones to Ludovico Einaudi, each set list and live show from this band is always an eclectic mix of music. They cite themselves as sounding like The Pogues shaken up with a bit of Oasis, with a side of The Velvet Underground!

Formed in 2021 and having released a string of singles to date to include ‘Millenial Me’  and ‘Capital’, in 2021 ‘No One Said’‘I Who Never Turned Back’‘Everything As Easy’‘Roundabout Ruse’ and ‘Silhouette Of Me’ in 2022 and the 2023 releases of ‘Nothing Matters’ (April), ‘Wonderfully Human’ (May) and ‘Nothing New Under The Sun’ (June) and‘Amy’ on the 8th September, the band are now gearing up for the release of their debut EP – ‘The Rooms Where Songs Are Made’.

‘The Rooms Where Songs Are Made’ is out now and comprises four original tracks, 3 previously unheard plus the recently released track of ‘Amy’.

First up ‘Amy’ is a song about love and loss, unrequited feelings and regret. The title refers to Amy Winehouse and the beauty of her music whilst also detailing the story of a love that never reached its full potential..It’s a bouncy ballad packed with instruments from guitars and keys, to harmonica and mandolin that layer with the harmonious vocals and poignant lyrics making for a rich tapestry of sound.

Following this is ‘Tetrachromacy’ – A song about friendship, rebirth and a specific condition of the eye that allows people to see millions of extra shades and colours. Musically, it’s a carousel of layered sounds adding to the depth of the subject muse.

Next up is ‘Lions’ – A song that tells a story and details a meeting point for two lovers, destined to reunite (the place in this story being the Lions in Nottingham’s Market Square). It’s a pure love song filled with melodic and harmonious instrumentals and vocals.

To finish, ‘Taxidermy Love’ – details the end of an indulgent, pompous relationship – the glorification of love and its inevitable downfall.

The title for the EP; ‘The Rooms Where Songs Are Made’  is actually a  lyric from the lead track on the EP  ‘Amy’; ‘It’s so fitting as you’re writing in the rooms where songs are made’, and it quite simply refers to a flat on the 13th floor of a tower block in Camden. This is where (in 2015) Albion was formed and where a lot of the initial concepts for the tracks on the EP were conceived. It’s a place very dear to the band’s hearts and so felt like the perfect name for this collection of songs.

The EP was recorded at The Libertines HQ – The Albion Rooms in Margate, with award winning sound engineer Jason Stafford (The Libertines/Trampolene/Jamie T) and was mastered by Graham Waller.

The Twilight Years Release New Single ‘All Contact Lost’

The Twilight Years are the alternative alt indie music duo comprising vocalist Dale Dawson and multi-instrumentalist Bobby Cowling

First formed in 2022, the duo divide their time between Spain’s Costa Blanca and the English Midlands. Together they bring us what they would  describe as  their own brand of “classy pop”.

The pair have performed extensively across Europe, both together and independently, and alongside a host of well-known artists including Mumford & Sons, Ryan Needham (Yard Act), José González, Fanfarlo and Jake Bugg.

Previous releases from the band have been their debut single of  ‘Wander’ in November 2022, ‘Fading Like The Summer’ from January 2023 and ‘Scavenger Type’ in March 2023, such releases which have seen them attain airplay on the likes of BBC Radio.

‘All Contact Lost’ is a driving and melodic piece of indie pop that belies its dark atmosphere and poignant lyrics.

Drawing on an array of indie and alternative influences, ‘All Contact Lost’ is an example of The Twilight Years’ mature brand of indie pop. With its opening appeal, “Planet Earth, come in,” the lyrics tell of isolation and addiction. Yet, with its driving beats, searing guitars and haunting melodies, it’s a high-energy track that’s sure to become a global dancefloor favourite.

The band have said of the track:

“We’re from an indie background and this is definitely the most dynamic, upbeat song we’ve recorded to date,” says producer and songwriter Bobby Cowling.

“All Contact Lost has a strange, space-age atmosphere,” adds vocalist Dale Dawson.

“It’s like nothing else we’ve recorded, but it’s definitely a direction we intend to explore.”

The fantastic ‘All Contact Lost’ is out now on all streaming platforms.

The DSM IV Release Music Video For ‘Reclaim The Night’

Formed and fronted by the magical and mystical Guy McKnight of the much revered and critically acclaimed cult favourite; The Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster. Created in Liverpool in 2019 the band have won over audiences all over the UK and Europe with their idiosyncratic musical character getting unsuspecting audiences hyped to hysteria with their strangely seductive,noise-rock, synth-pop industrial sound that delivers nothing short of a unique musical experience. Their music is cacophonous and epic, featuring rich textures and melodic hooks that keep listeners captivated and the band have proved themselves stadium worthy in their own right, following their tours with Gods such as  The Sleaford Mods and The Libertines.

THE DSM IV take their name from the ‘Diagnostic Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders vol IV’, as used by the American Psychiatric Association

Guy’s interest in the manual was born out of his experiences in dealing with his own mental health;

“Mental health problems still carry so much stigma, through ignorance, fear, misunderstanding and intolerance. While I’m not necessarily an advocate as such for the limited categorisation, labelling and medicating of people, I’ve no doubt saved a lot of people too. The manual can be a contentious subject. Illness is part of the human condition and the reality of life and death. It’s not something to be looked down on.”

The band’s album ‘NEW AGE PARANOIA’ seamlessly brings together stories, beats, guitars & noise in an inspiring collection of kaleidoscopic reflections about right & wrong, dark & light, joy & pain, sin & shame – all at once sobering & yet intoxicatingly dream filled.

The single to be taken from the album ‘RECLAIM THE NIGHT’ is a powerful soundscape, filled with electronic beats and synths combined with thought-provoking lyrics, creating a mesmerising and enticing atmosphere inviting the listener into another dimension, another world where you can be set free of shackles to reclaim and entertain yourself in joyous abandonment without fear or judgement.

The accompanying video to the single is unleashed on the world today and it’s everything you would expect from this totally unpredictable outfit.

‘Reclaim The Night’ is a hypnotic, groundbreaking track from The DSM IV, featuring a blend of pulsing beats, mesmerising synths, and intriguing lyrics. With its innovative soundscape and hypnotic melodies, this track has a mass appeal across the genres and decades.

As Clash magazine astutely observed, this band bridges the gap between the primal garage punk of The Stooges and the screeching futurism of Suicide. There are clear influences from these artists, but The DSM IV put their own spin on those sounds, creating something that feels both classic and cutting-edge. In short, this is a band that defies easy categorisation and that I feel is a very good thing!

In the official music video to the track the story follows the band walking the streets while boxing and being caught on fire ….and on a night out at a raucous Liverpool pub, where they perform the single ‘Reclaim The Night’ amidst an intriguing array of colourful characters, featuring bins on heads, latex masks, a playing card and a fez making various memorable appearances throughout coupled with the pure cinematic brilliance as scenes and scenarios cut back and forth, leaving the viewer to decide between the dream and the reality.

The video perfectly captures the infectious energy of the song and the band’s performance. “THE DSM IV make music for the people…living in strange times. Poetry in motion. Nasty & Nice Tunes……with lashings of magic & just a spoonful of spite.”
